Montessori Childrens Community icon

Montessori Children’s Community was opened in 2008 with profound respect for children and a devotion to educating children for a peaceful world. Our Community is committed to Montessori’s approach to education and operates on the principle of freedom within limits, respect for one’s self, for others and for the environment.

Our environment is filled with beautiful, carefully chosen materials that progress developmentally from concrete expressions of concepts to more abstract representations. The materials in the classroom represent a four year curriculum of work and they invite the child to explore and be creative.

Through daily observation, the guide determines when and if a child needs further instruction and/or support in any given subject. Observation also allows the guide to determine when a child is ready for additional challenges. Furthermore, guides model respect, provide support and assist as peacemakers in order to better understand the child.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our “Whole Child” approach embraces each child’s individual progress toward concentration, inner-discipline and self-confidence by allowing each child to reach their full potential at their own pace and level.

Art

Each class presents an idea that the children can use as a starting point, and children freely interpret how to respond using the materials provided. We make sculptures, collage, draw, paint and experiment with printmaking.

Music

Through the internationally recognized Musikgarten curriculum, we sing, dance, play percussion instruments, and engage poetry and melodic patterns to help children build language rhythm.

Cultural awareness

We learn about other countries and cultures in an effort to cultivate awareness and empathy. In addition to honoring various cultural celebrations, lessons include geography, botany, land forms and life cycles.

Field trips

Our school offers a robust offering of year-round age appropriate field trips including museums, performing arts, and nature centers. Parent chaperones are welcomed for these events.

Community events

We are deeply committed to modeling responsible global citizenship for our students. We offer many opportunities throughout the year to engage in volunteering and fundraising for services in our own community.
