Infant Classroom

Our infant room is a small environment with a maximum of 8 children. The infant environment is designed as a Montessori “Nido” (nest) – a protective, loving place where babies can explore and feel secure. The Nido is meant to be a cozy, comfortable space for babies that feels like home. It represents a cocoon between home and the outside world.

The Montessori method values exploration and autonomy from the beginning of life. This is a time of rapid development for your child, and the Nido is thoughtfully designed to encourage that autonomy with activities that engage infants even before they are mobile.

Therapists and early intervention specialists are welcome in our classroom. Therapy sessions take place in the classroom so the children can stay in a familiar and comfortable environment.

Feeding

We support the feeding of both breast milk and formula. All bottles are clearly labeled and stored safely and all bottles are warmed before serving. Solids are introduced when a child is developmentally ready and has received approval from their pediatrician, typically when they are able to sit with support.

Sleeping

Infants nap based on their individual sleep needs, cues, and wake windows. Children are placed in their crib and given the opportunity to fall asleep independently in a peaceful environment. Most infants will self settle, though additional comforts like gentle patting or rocking are provided as needed.

COMMUNICATION

Parents are given a daily report documenting their child’s feeding, napping, and diapering.
